The Insurance Institute
of the Cape of Good Hope was first established in 1898 and is the
oldest local institute in South Africa. We are a
non-profit organisation, established to serve the interest of the entire
insurance community of the Western Cape. We aim to provide a vibrant
and effective networking platform to our members representing insurers,
brokers and service providers in the Western Cape and are a central
point for advancing members’ interests within the industry.
The IICoGH is proud of its role in the community, supporting various
deserving charities through our annual Charity Auction proceeds. We
also work closely with the IISA, keeping our members updated on FSB
requirements relating to education and continuous professional development
(CPD). Through our close partnership with the IISA, we aim to provide
a platform for CPD to our members from 2010 onwards.
When considering the history of the IICoGH, it is interesting to note
that during the 1972 Annual Gala Dinner, the speaker was Sir De Villiers
Graaff, who was accompanied by his wife. Other ladies were invited
to attend, making the occasion a memorable one. We
have certainly come a long way since 1972 with a council leadership
structure leaning towards female dominance!
Our presence in the entire membership area ensures a clear networking
path with all members.
